The trail seemed much easier to follow for Zebra than Tunnel slot, but I still would make sure that on any Escalante hike you have an external GPS and a downloaded map and a paper map. The walk to Zebra Slot is beautiful with lots of wave patterns and beautiful cliffs. Take a walk on the 360 path below.

You can even look down into the narrow slot canyon. So, that’s why it’s called Peek-A-Boo Gulch! From here, you can retrace your steps back through the slot canyon, or walk about 15 minutes on a flat, sandy trail to Spooky Gulch. It can take 30 to 45 minutes to hike this slot canyon out and back.

Zebra and Tunnel Slots is a 6.
The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips and is best used from March until November.
Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Horse flies in the sand constantly attacked your legs.
The slot canyon was cool, but you have to be pretty thin or flexible to get in the tight spaces.
Saw a frog, but there were also dead birds in the water.
Best advice follow the path, the prayer rocks and keep to the left.
Yesterday the water sat pretty high.
The slots are narrow!
I was watching people go in on my way back and thought they may have a hard time.
It then became and in and out for me and so worth it!
Lots of flowers in bloom right now.
It was still a 5 mile hike through gorgeous terrain.
If you climb up on top of the Zebra slot, you can see quite far, so overall we enjoyed this even though we couldn't go into the slot.
Did Zebra Slot first, then hiked over to Tunnel.
Zebra is beautiful and very narrow.
There's a few parts that require some agility and scrambling to get up to the next section of the slot, and these parts proved problematic for some people coming back down.
There was a pool of water towards the end that we didn't attempt to cross, because the footholds and handholds to skirt it weren't great.
On the hike over to Tunnel, there's a field of Moqui Marbles which was cool to check out.
Tunnel had a few pools of knee deep water, so I had to take my shoes off to cross it.
Hike back to the car from Tunnel was exposed and mostly over sand, so be prepared for that.
Good hike, and the slot canyon was awesome.
Although the 3 miles there was a little confusing, as I made the mistake of thinking the slot canyons would be larger and bigger.
Almost nobody there at this time of year.
Just be aware that there is NO shade except in the slots which are very short.
Excellent hike to both zebra and tunnel slots.
The tunnel slots were thigh deep with water.
After we continued to follow the wash for 2 miles.
I recommend not following the wash and going back through tunnel slot back over to Zebra.
Zebra was about knee deep with water.
After the "Zebra" section there is a 4+ foot climb which took one person to pull the other person up which emptied into round pools.
April 4-7 my kids 7, 10, 14, 16 loved it.
Lower part of Zebra had about 12-18 inches of water.
I couldn't touch the bottom with a 5 foot stick.
Be sure to look out for the hollow iron deposits within zebra canyon!!
Nice walk through the desert to get to the canyons FYI: Didn't get to hike this one.
The lady at the visitors center said it is full of water at least waist deep.
I would call the visitors center if you plan on going to check the conditions.
Bummed we didn't get to see it.
The actual slot read more of Zebra is very short.
The hike up to it is fairly easy to follow, and offers lots of great views.
The water was waist deep at the deepest part when I was there yesterday, and extremely cold.
see more wore sandals through my feet felt like they were going to fall off to keep my socks and boots dry, but it sounds like neoprene socks are the way to go when you get to the water.
Water in the slot kept it interesting.
Be prepared with neoprene socks and dry cloths for the hike out.
Amazing texture in the rocks Incredible hike; wishing I would have looked at this before I started.
Waist high water, narrow, but mild.
Some of the most beautiful slot canyons I'll ever see.
One of my all time favorite zebra and tunnel slot canyon />The trails were marked by cairns at at some point got iffy to follow so make sure to pay attention, especially in the wash at towards the end by the tunnel slots.
AllTrails currently has it listed as 6.
The NPS website lists just tunnel slot out and back at 7.
We clocked it at right around zebra and tunnel slot canyon />If I were going to recommend anything to read more it would be just do Zebra slot out and back 5.
Really fun hike, tunnel slot had 16in of freaking cold water in it and a small pool just past it.
The water was a great break from the 90' heat.
Zebra was dry but very cool inside.
There is a rock arrow marking the entrance to tunnel out on the wash.
Only trouble we had was getting a 70lb dog over the rock fall just past the pool.
Overall a great hike!
Take twice as much water as you think you'll need.
Me and the dog blew through 6 liters!
Great hike with scenic views the entire way.
The end before the slot canyon was extremely sandy, so be sure to bring appropriate shoes.
We had sneakers on and it made it difficult.
We also brought the dog which was great until the slot - had to take turns going in because we couldn't bring him in there - very narrow.
I would not do this again, but the slot canyon at the end was amazing.
If you're claustrophobic you might not want to go through the rocks when you get there, it gets pretty narrow when you get through and there is a dead end.
Just liked this May 7th and there's about zebra and tunnel slot canyon yards of water to walk through about knees deep as well.
Hiked Zebra today 4.
This is after the rain passed through the area earlier in the day.
We did hear reports from others that Tunnel had waist deep water so opted out of that one for today.
If you take a pack, make sure its compact, otherwise you can leave at the opening, as it gets extremely narrow.
The slot itself is maybe 0.
I believe Escalante has some of the greatest adventure hikes out there, BUT I have had enough scary experiences in Escalante that I would STRONGLY advise that if you want to have the adventures here you NEED 4 things.
All Trails or a similar app with the downloaded map on your phone with a spare battery or a Garmin.
Water shoes in your backpack.
A paper map as continue reading backup.
Also always drop a pin at your car.
Escalante is a wonderland, but the trails are not well marked and so it is crucial you do your homework about what you are heading into and go prepared.
To get to the hike you drive about 10 miles down Hole In Zebra and tunnel slot canyon Rock Road until you see a cattle guard with a parking area on the right side of the road.
This is the parking lot, and the trail is just across the road.
After not very long on the trail the cliffs turn beautiful with cool wave patterns.
We headed to Zebra trail and did that trail first, and then headed right which I believe is South.
You get to a fence.
I was told we had to climb under it.
We walked by a field of cool black balls that were facinating, and this is where my All Trail came in as a HUGE help.
Not sure if we would have found it without my external GPS, and that downloaded map, but when we did find it, it was an obvious crack in the canyon that you are looking at from above.
The decent into the canyon was steep, but if please click for source go at it slowly and carefully it was not bad.
The next challenge to deal with is the water.
We went when it was only high 50's in temperature, so getting wet was something we had to be careful about.
If it was a super hot day, I am sure it would have been just a nice cool down.
The big landmark of this hike is that the trail narrows down into a narrow canyon about 2 feet wide that is about 30-40 feet long.
It has qt5 and slots that have settled on top creating a tunnel.
I stayed close to the cave wall, so it only came up to right under my bottom, but in the middle it was deeper.
Very cool hike, but like most hikes in Escalante, GO PREPARED, for it is super easy to get lost.
Here is my blog for a 360 stitch of the hike.

Go left to Zebra slot canyon, go right to Tunnel slot canyon. Tunnel Slot Canyon: When you reach the Creek, turn right, about 0.8 mile the canyon will be on your left side, you'd better pull out the GPS on the phone or it's very easy to miss it, it was flooded when I was there, so I didn't go in the tunnel.

Shape shifting walls undulate in synchronous waves so narrowly spaced that sunlight refracts as if inside a prism, bouncing between stripes of pink and magenta, accented by an interplay of water, sand, and sky.

While it takes a skilled photographer to negotiate the contrast of light and dark within, a beginner canyoneer should be able to navigate the terrain.
The only major obstacle is zebra and tunnel slot canyon pool of water.
Lack of light and wind in this sheltered crevice makes evaporation happen slowly, so water often zebra and tunnel slot canyon through even the driest weather.
The pool may be shallow and stagnant or deep and clear, depending on recent rainfall.
Come prepared to get a bit wet and cold.
If you expect deep water, consider a dry bag for your camera gear.

Beginning from Hole in the Rock Road outside Escalante, the trail crosses 3 miles of rolling terrain and a sandy wash.
Although there are no signs, the path is well worn and easy to follow with zebra and tunnel slot canyon rock cairns to aid in navigation.
At the intersection with Harris Wash, a broad sandy riverbed, turn left upstream.
Where the wash appears to fork, keep right and the canyon mouth will soon come into view.
You can walk a short way on dry sand as the walls close in, but the true experience requires crossing mud and water and turning some corners.
Mild claustrophobia is well worth it for the sandstone spectacle within.
The https://autoimg.ru/and/greektown-casino-stay-and-play-packages.html picturesque corridor is just beyond the long pool, and it requires only walking and wading.
Beyond this, however, is a short rock scramble into another chamber and a new perspective.
The rarely-seen upper canyon is cut off by a sheer wall, but it can be accessed zebra and tunnel slot canyon exiting the slot and hiking up and around on slickrock.
Potholes filled with moqui marbles await discovery above.

To extend your adventure, check out Tunnel Slot, which is a bit further down Harris Wash.
Tunnel Slot is aptly named.
It is a slot canyon like Zebra, but the walls enclose so narrowly overhead that barely any light squeezes through.
Wider near the bottom, the canyon resembles more of a tunnel.
Whatever water is in Zebra, expect it to be deeper and colder in Tunnel.
The pool here can be more than chest deep and about 100 feet long.
This one is less photogenic and more adventurous than its neighbor around the corner, and it has a character all its own.
To get to Tunnel Slot, return to where the footpath joins Harris Wash.
Find a continuation of the trail on the opposite side of the wash and follow it east for just under a mile.
Take the first side canyon coming in from the left, and the dark hole of Tunnel Slot will soon appear.
Enter the water and aim for the light at the end of the tunnel where the canyon opens back up and sunshine returns.
The wash above here can be explored as well, but there are no more narrows.
Harris Wash Harris Wash continues downstream of Tunnel Slot, and it is an entirely new adventure.
It soon narrows into a deep canyon of its own, filled with dense vegetation and trickling with perennial water.
It meanders and deepens for many miles, eventually meeting the Escalante River and continuing tothen on to Lake Powell.

At this point, follow the cairns up the wash. Once the wash narrows into a slot canyon, you may have to wade through some puddles up to about five feet deep. The canyon quickly narrows to 8-10 inches at its narrowest, with some scrambling required to make it further up. Eventually, the slot runs into a 10 foot high ledge.

Hole in the rock road was a pretty easy drive in a sedan to the zebra canyon trailhead (we did not go further), but it apparently becomes impassable if it’s been raining so make sure to check road conditions. It was a pretty brutal trek through sand dunes in the very hot sun to the beginning of the slot canyon.
